I am
excited about the opportunities that are ahead of us as an organization
and as a community. Much like spring brings new growth and new beauty
to the landscape, the rotation of new personalities into an organization
also brings fresh ideas and new opportunities to grow. Combined
with the leadership and experience of our returning board members,
I feel we have a very strong, active and responsive board for the
upcoming year. I am honored to serve with these individuals as your
President. We certainly appreciate the efforts of the past members
of the chamber and the board of directors, for they have forged
the foundation that has ensured our survival to this point. Also,
my thanks to our outgoing President, Nancy Henry, for her successful
efforts this past year to move the organization forward. As a result,
we have several new board members joining me in the coming year
to reach out to our membership and community through our traditional
as well as some new gatherings, activities and events that are planned
for this coming year.
I read an article in the Herald Standard several months ago, regarding
Pennsylvania local chambers of commerce closing or merging with
larger organizations in record numbers. The article cited the difficult
times many communities our size are experiencing as the reason.
Our objective in 2007-08 is to make sure this does not happen to
us and our community. Our local chamber is your voice in the local
area, county and state. Everything we receive from businesses goes
directly back into our community. We cannot say that for larger
chambers serving a much broader area and we certainly do not want
to loose this independence.
Our focus as an organization is to preserve the competitive enterprise
system in our community, and to promote business and community growth
and development. We are challenging our governing documents and
our direction as an organization to determine what is working and
what isn’t working and will strive to effect the change necessary
to grow your chamber and make it stronger in the coming year. To
be successful, we need the support and dedication of our entire
membership, not just a handful of people. We will be asking for
this support in the coming year.
We are at a crossroads as a community and as an organization. We
cannot rest on the laurels of our history. We need to be proud of
our heritage, but yet we need to focus on forging a new history
and a new direction for our community and our organization in order
to bring businesses and civic prosperity back to our community.
Our objective as an organization to facilitate this initiative is
to expand and reach out more proactively to our membership base
and to promote the many amenities available in our area to prospective
tourists and businesses looking to relocate. As June Newill said
at the Annual Dinner, “Many hands make light work”. We will be reaching
out to our membership to become a part of this momentum. Our destiny
as a community and as an organization is in our collective hands
and from my perspective; our cup is half full, not half empty.
Sincerely,

Bryan S. Kisiel, CPA
